IAN CHANG COMFORT ME (FEAT. KIAH VICTORIA)

We've been fascinated by the steady string of singles preceding drummer, percussionist and producer Ian Chang's debut album 属 Belonging. Its third single 'Comfort Me' features silky-smooth vocals courtesy of electro-soul singer Kiah Victoria. Set above textural electronic elements, Victoria's sincere melodies bring a pop sensibility as yet seen on Chang's experimental compositions. The track also features velvety bass parts by Chang's Son Lux band mate Jackson Hill and dreamy guitar playing by ex-roommate Kendrick Lo, making it the most collaborative piece on in the album. Chang elaborates: "Two years ago, I left my creative stomping ground, Brooklyn, to move in with my partner in Dallas, a city where I knew almost nobody. For me, this song represents this shift towards cultivating a more isolated existence and creative practice. Of course, the ironic thing is that this song ended up being the most collaborative one. Kiah Victoria and I have been acquaintances for a decade but we never really connected until she reached out asking me to do a remix for “Valet” off of her incredible album Memo. I was listening to her music a ton at the time so remixing her was a very inspiring process. It must have stuck in my brain because I soon started working on “Comfort Me”, and when I was done with the instrumental, I realized that Kiah would be amazing on it."属 Belonging will arrive digitally on the 24th of April. - Holly Mullineaux
